Aim High, Achieve Higher

Different things speak to different people. For me, sometimes it’s the lyrics in a song that move me to tears. Sometimes, it’s the message on a billboard or even the common theme of a popular TV show or classic movie that puts an unexpected smile on my face. This time, it was an email signature file that struck a chord and really spoke to me.

Ivan clearly is a high-potential leader in one of my client organizations. He was recently promoted from a second-level management role where he was responsible for not only running a successful store operation but also training the next generation of managers to the third level of leadership where he is now responsible for running multiple stores. I trust Ivan will only be in this position for as long as he needs to be because his motto is, “Aim high, Achieve higher!”

Those of you who regularly read my blog posts and other creative musings likely already know that I’m a fairly achievement-oriented, Type A kind of person. Sure, I go through my “woe is me” moments and question my abilities to succeed every once in awhile just like most people. For me, those moments of doubt and despair are very short-lived though.

Like Ivan apparently, I too believe that we should aim high in all that we do and remain steadfast in our commitments to achieve greatness in our lives. Life is too short to compromise on what matters most to us. Beyond that, we may never get second chances if we throw in the towel early.

A friend, mentor, and professional colleague of mine Dr. Steve Cady calls it living our “first best alternatives in life” rather than accepting our next best alternatives. Click here to view a short video clip of Steve talking about living a truly inspired passionate life. And keep aiming high. You may be surprised at what you are capable of achieving!
